Travelling After Citizenship Ceremony

Post by Vanv35 » Fri Jan 17, 2020 12:38 pm

Hi All

Wonder if someone can help here. I am due to attend the citizenship ceremony on 29th January. I have a problem though, as I want to travel to see my mother in February, as she is very ill. I know that as soon as I have attended the ceremony, my ILR will become void. I have contacted my local council asking for them to postpone my ceremony, but when I will be returning to UK will be after the 3 month period to attend ceremony.
I have tried to contact HO to ask if they can extend the period, but I was told I have to email them, which I did over a week ago, and have had no response as yet.
Does anyone know what would happen if I did not attend the ceremony? If I do not receive my certificate, is my ILR still valid, and, would I have to go through the whole application process again?
I am so stressed at this time, I don't know what to do.
Thank you.
