British Citizenship for dependant partner and child born outside of UK

Post by adi27 » Thu Mar 02, 2023 12:50 pm

Hello,

My application for British Citizenship has been recently approved and my ceremony is due in April'23. My wife and 10 year old have got dependant visas (skilled/Tier2 based). They have been on dependant visas without any break since year 2015 and have been in UK for a long time. However, they both have had long absences between 2019 to 2022 (almost continuously for 3 years long). I've got their dependant visas extended until 2025 recently in Dec'22.

My question is now that I'm going to become a British citizen, is there a way that I can directly apply for their citizenships too OR do they still have to go through the process of ILR and then BC? And would their recent long absences impact the applications?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

Kind regards,
Adi

No there is not. ILR is a mandatory requirement for your spouse and child if the child was born abroad.

Yes.
And would their recent long absences impact the applications?
For your spouse, there are absence limits for citizenship.
