Valid passport for naturalisation

Post by Sbd0312 » Mon Aug 19, 2019 9:38 pm

Hi, I am going to start the process for my naturalisation but my passport went out of date last week. Do I need a valid passport to go through the application and if I can apply with it what other documents do I need to provide? Any help will be much appreciated.

Passport has to be valid on the date of the application

Thanks for the response Zimba. Do I have to use a passport or is there other documents I can use instead of it? As in is it a mandatory requirement to have a valid passport for the application process?

I read the guidance but I wasn’t able to find where it says I need a valid passport while applying for naturalisation. I read that for EEA nationals it’s a mandatory requirement but I’m an Indian citizen married to a British citizen. Could you please point me to the section where it says so please?

You need a valid passport to apply for naturalization, cause not only does it serve as a proof of your application but also proof of Identity.

A valid passport is NOT required for a citizenship application in form AN!!

My friend was asked to send a valid passport last year when he applied for naturalization, because he submitted an expired passport, that was the reason why I had mine renewed before I made my application.

There are many reasons it could have been asked for. Many members have used expired passports and submitted evidence of residence since passport expiry date and had success!
