UK Citizen to EU

OK, I was born in England and travel on a UK passport. I presently live in Canada, and I want to move to the EU.

I'm thinking about Finland, but only have about $5000 saved up, and I'm having trouble making a logical plan to get there and get started.

It doesn't have to be Finland. I've also thought about Portugal.

I'm not sure how to do this. Should I just take off, be brave, and fair the seas of life?

You can literally turn up and try to start your new life! However, I would probably try to find work in advance. There are many international jobs sites, e.g.:

There are, of course, loads more.

As you have recognized $5000 (about 2800GBP) isn't a lot of money so you might have difficulty in setting up a life in Northern Europe where the costs are really high. I've been looking at some other places, e.g. Spain (obviously costs are high in the main cities), Hungary (rental costs seems quite low) and Croatia (awesome scenery/beaches).

There may be other factors which affect your decision, e.g. language, desired climate, food preferences, education for kids etc. I guess you will have already thought about these.

I'm sure you have thought about a lot of the stuff that I've mentioned above, but I just thought that I'd share some of the things I considered when I was a thinking about moving to another EU country.

If you currently have a job in Canada, you might want to see if there is anyway that you could be transferred to Europe? That would makes things easier.

Also, you need to understand the requirements for each country to be able to work as you often need certain numbers (CPR in Denmark for example) and registration with local municipalities and the tax authorities. You will also need proof of accommodation, like a tenancy agreement, and in some instances deposits on properties (even shared accommodation) can be 3 months rent upfront.

In most countries, you need the above before you can open a bank account.

Even though it is as simple as arriving in one of the EU states, there are different procedures to follow for each one, with some being easier than others.

why not coming back to uk you speak english and british you have more opportunities over here
