Losing South African citizenship

Hi,

I went to the embassy in the UK to renew my children’s South African passports. However because I didn’t apply for a retention of citizenship in 2015 they have said my South African citizenship will 99% be rejected. This consequently means my children cannot get their passports either.

I had no idea I was meant to do this. I have applied to SA but I am desperately seeking good news stories or advice?

I was born in SA, lived there until an adult and my family still reside there and I am possibly having my citizenship

You would have lost your SA citizenship the day ypu became British.

How did ypu become British, through naturalisation or are you British by descent?

What year were your children born and where were they born? This is really important.

If you naturalised, it shouldn't affect your children. For example, I lost my SA citizenship before my daughter turned 18 and she did not lose here SA citizenehip and is a dual SA/British citizen. The law of loss only applies to those over the age if 18, it doesn't apply to children.
