counting days

Post by PaulM » Mon May 05, 2008 9:30 pm

Hi,

I'm on a UK Ancestral visa and for ILR in the future I would have to count the days that I am out of the country. I travelled today with a ferry from Wales to Ireland and will be spending tonight plus 2 other nights in Ireland and then on the 4th day back into the UK. Does it count as 4 days or 2 days?

Also should I request an exit stamp (will be leaving via Dublin airport - I gained an entry stamp at the Port)...

Thanks

Paul

2 days. Only full days away are counted.

See also Counting days for ILR. To be consistent, they may count days as for Naturalisation purposes.

Chapter 18: Naturalisation at discretion > Annex B: The residence requirements:
2.2 Only whole days' absences should be counted (see s. 50(b)
any reference to a day on which a person was absent from the United Kingdom or from a [F9British overseas territory] or from the [F16British overseas territories] is a reference to a day for the whole of which he was so absent.
of BNA 1981). The dates of departure and arrival are not to be counted as absences.
