Switching Tier 2 (General Visa) to BNO Visa

Hello,

I am planning to switch my current Tier 2 (General) Visa to BNO visa.
My current Tier 2 (General) Visa will be expired on mid September this year

Here are my questions below,

1. If i have submitted my BNO visa application and waiting for the decision. Can i stay in the UK even my Tier 2 (General) Visa is expired

2. I understand that i am not allowed to go outside the UK while i am waiting for the result of the BNO visa application. Can i still take the plane and travel to Northern Ireland for a vacation As Northern Ireland is still part of the UK
