VISA EXTENSION-INORDER TO JOIN THE BRITISH ARMY

Post by karatajay » Thu Dec 15, 2011 7:22 pm

Hi there,
I am a commonwealth citizen and I live in UK. I passed the British Army's formal selection process at the Army Development and Selection Centre, at Pirbright, Surrey.
My joining date to start my training lies in the month of April but my present UK visa which is PSW runs out in march.
Please advice me ,under which category should i apply for a visa , so that i can be present in the UK on my joining date.
I am running short by 2 months from the last date of my current visa validity and my joining date and i need to be present in the Uk on the joining date.

Thanks
Ajay

Perhaps postal FLR(O) application shortly before leave expires.

I think this extract from IDI's covers your situation:-

"Delayed enlistment. There may be circumstances where the receiving unit only runs one or two basic training courses per year and the enlistment date is therefore delayed. Where evidence of this is supplied, a period of 6 months’ leave code 3 may be granted outside the Immigration Rules to cover the period up to the enlistment date provided."

Apply on the form that Vinny has linked. "6 months code 3" is the same conditions as a visitor, i.e. no work and no recourse to public funds. So to be on the safe side be able to show that you can support and accommodate yourself for the necessary period.
