licensed sporsor and RLMT

Post by phasting1101 » Tue Nov 04, 2014 12:04 pm

Hello guys

I am going to apply for a school to work as a teacher and have few enquiries on COS and RLMT.

I am fully aware of those and how the procedures take place but my question is

do schools/organisations that are licensed with the sponsorship (https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/s ... -11-04.pdf) still have to go through the RLMT to hire a foreigner?

Yes, they have to unless your job falls under the RLMT exemption list. You can refer the sponsor guidance for RLMT exemptions.

so my very first step is to find a school that has advertised for at least 28 days?

no your first step is to apply within a school that has a licence.
Once they shortlist you and other candidates, it is after that while selecting that they cant give you preference if there was already someone able to fill the role who is EU citizen.

what is the difference between schools that are licensed sponsors and not in terms of benefits that I will get?

Schools which do not have a sponsorship license cannot employ you. They will first need to get a sponsorship license, apply for a CoS for you and once approved, you will have to apply for a visa. This will take some time which the school may not want to do if they are short of time.

If the school already has the license, they have most likely sponsored an employee before and would know the process of how to get the CoS assigned. Turnaround would be much faster!

Thanks for the valuable information.

Then how long would it mostly likely to take to get COS issued if a sponsorship licensed school has employed me?

What is your current visa status? The timelines depends on that. Just to add, it will be atleast a month since RLMT needs to be done.

Do you have access to a Slovakia passport due to your permanent residence status - if that is a yes then you are by default an EEA resident and tier 2 does not apply.

Nope. I am a non-EEA passport holder

If as you say you have permanent resident status by default you must have access to a route to become a Slovak national?
How long have you lived there and what nationality do you hold?

Also note, if you are applying to be a Teacher of Maths, Physics or Chemistry, these occupations ARE on the shortage occupation list and you would be exempt from the RLMT. The school would still need to be a sponsor though...
