Dependent to Tier 2 switch stamping from thrid country

Hi,
I am an Indian national on spouse visa working and residing in UK for the last year. My employer is switching me to Tier 2 visa.
My question is for stamping of the new visa do I need to return to home country or can I go to a third country like USA or Ukraine and get new visa stamped there.

Recently an Indian friend got USA-H1B stamped from Dubai on a visit visa and it went without a hitch, I was hoping it would be the same case for UK.

Anyways your help is much appreciated.
