Urgent Help need before applying for naturalisation

Hi everyone,

My naturalisation is due since last month but i did not applied because of tax issues. I got NI number from first ememployer on payslip and kept using it thinking its mine. I recently found out that i have been using wrong NI Number since last 7/8 years. I was even getting all documents from HMRC and they even confirmed it by letter that this is my NI Number but when i was with recent employer i found out student loans deduction on my payslips. I never took student loans so after some investigation with hmrc i find out i am using wrong NI Number. I requested employer history and they also said they have diffetent forename even when they were sending me letter on my names.

Long story short they asked me to apply for NI which i did and got one last month. Now i am confuse which one to use as all my record is on old NI number. Should i clear this mess before applying? I am in hurry because my wife is outside uk and baby coming in this world after few months. If they born after i am british national then i could easily apply for them in home country. Please advice me what to do

It is a migrant's responsibility to apply for their NI number. Employers do not give this to you as it has nothing to do with them. Were you working through an umbrella company or similar or a proper company employer?

You are in a hurry to apply for citizenship? Good luck with that, members are waiting many months now, some over a year.

Yea i know its our responsibility to apply fofor NI number and i was thinking to apply but when i got tthe Proper NI Number on my payslip i assumed that HMRC allotted me this number and kept using it and were also getting p60 or p45 on my name with NI mentioned on them so i never doubt it until recently when this student loan deduction made me curious. My question is should i sort this out first or still can apply by giving them all clarfication..my all tax record is on previous NI number while this new One is just week old
