Relationship Breakdown

Post by ILRApplication01 » Sun Mar 06, 2022 7:32 pm

Hi,

I am posting this on behalf of a friend who has following queries:

He is currently on ILR for less than 12 months. His relationship seems to have taken a hit. He has following questions:

1) Can he still apply for Naturalisation, once his 12 months are completed, if his relationship has broken down and they are not living together but divorce proceedings have not started yet?

2) Can he still apply for Naturalisation, once his 12 months are completed, if divorce proceedings have started or completed?

His immigration history
He came to the UK as a dependent of Tier 2 visa holder more than 5 years ago. He did some part time work but his wife was supporting him financially.

I have had a look at the Naturalisation form and it asks for 'marriage or civil partnership certificate', is this a requirement to provide documents of his wife if he applies for Naturalisation?

Are there any other things that he needs to consider when it comes to his application, given above history?

Is there any financial requirement for him?

Thank you a lot for your help in advance.

1. Yes.

2. Yes.

Citizenship has no "dependent" concept. Each person applying must meet the requirements individually.

There is no financial or employment requirement
