Friend needs my British passport to upload?

Hi,

A friend of mine is applying for his naturalisation and asked me if I could be one of the referee which I am fine with but he then said as part of the procees I need to send him a copy of my British passport for him to upload online. There was none of this when I got my naturalisation in 2018 has the process changed can someone confirm if this is fine?

He is mistaken. There is NO requirement to upload the referee passport copies. There never ever has been this requirement either.
