Citizenship after ILR

Post by tomland » Thu Feb 08, 2024 6:35 pm

Hello,

My husband is a British Citizen and I am applying through 10 10-year ILR, can I apply for citizenship as soon as I receive my ILR? or do I have to wait for one year?

Your ILR route is completely irrelevant. Citizenship is based on the last 5 years or 3 years if married to a British citizen. How long more than that you have been in the UK is irrelevant.
can I apply for citizenship as soon as I receive my ILR?

Yes, if you meet the 3 year requirements etc.
or do I have to wait for one year?
No.

Thanks a lot for your response. So if I get the ILR through long residency and I am married to a British citizen I can apply for citizenship without waiting for another year? So it should not be through the family route for immediate eligibility?

This link:
https://www.gov.uk/british-citizenship

It says: To apply for citizenship with ILR you must usually have lived in the UK for 12 months after getting it.

To apply as the spouse or civil partner of a British citizen you must have lived in the UK for the last 3 years.

You’ll also need to have either:

indefinite leave to remain (ILR)
settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme
If you do, you’ll be eligible to apply for citizenship immediately.

Correct. The route to ILR is completely irrelevant. To apply for citizenship immediately, you simply need ILR and must be married to a British Citizen. That is it.

What is the question about this extract? It is quite clear.

Did not mention all previous application for natuarlisation

Post by tomland » Sat Aug 17, 2024 3:08 pm

Hello,

I have only included the last two applications for the naturalisation question " Have you previously made any other UK immigration applications in the UK or abroad?". I have had more but I did not remember their dates. Do I have to withdraw my application before going for fingerprints? could my application be rejected because of it?

No it won't. Just explain the mistake and provide additional details about the applications you forgot in a cover letter that you will upload before attending your biometrics appointment.
