British Citizenship after ILR for Spouse and Kids

Post by SKJ1984 » Fri Feb 21, 2025 4:38 pm

Hi,

Main Applicant (My Wife) received ILR : July 2024
Dependent Spouse (me) ILR : Nov 2024
Childrens (2 kids) ILR : Jan 2025

Main applicant will be applying for naturalization in July 2025.

Can me and kids apply for naturalization/registration immediately after the main applicant naturalization is successful? I am planning to apply as spouse of British citizen and use 3 years route.

1. Is my understanding correct. Me and kids need not wait 12 months but can apply once she attends the ceremony.
2. I suppose Kids could even apply along with my wife in July 2025. Am I correct?
2. Me and kids must have been inside the country exactly 3 years before the application date.
3. Is it that I can apply once the naturalization is approved or once she attends ceremony?

1. You don't have to wait 12 months if you are married to a British citizen. As citizenship applications can take up to 6 months then waiting for a ceremony date, you will likely reach 12 months on ilr first to apply in your own right.

2. Children can apply with your wife yes.

3. Your wife only becomes British once the ceremony has been attended.
