Dear all,
I am writing to inquire about the passport submission requirements for an MN1 application (child registration as a British citizen).
My situation:
I am now a UK permanent resident (settled status), but I was not a permanent resident when my child was born in the UK. In any case, because my child was born in the UK and he is now eligible for British citizenship under Section 1(3). My child currently holds a Korean passport
I am preparing to submit an MN1 application for my child, but I have been informed that I need to provide my child's Korean passport with the application. However, my child needs to travel abroad soon and cannot be without their passport.
According to the MN1 guidance document, the identity evidence requirements state that I can provide either:
Child's passport or travel document, OR Child's birth certificate showing parents' names
So, can I submit my child's birth certificate (which shows parents' names) instead of the passport for identity verification purposes?
If I apply online, can I upload a scanned copy of the passport while retaining the original for travel purposes?
Given the upcoming travel plans, what would you recommend as the best approach to proceed with the MN1 application?
I would be grateful for your guidance on how to proceed with the application while ensuring my child can travel as planned.
Thank you for your time and assistance.
