Travel restrictions while awaiting ceremony for kids

Post by Khan2805 » Thu Nov 20, 2025 4:12 pm

Hi
I have applied for citizenship for my wife and 6 year old son.
I have received email from council stating that application for my wife is approved and certificate is with them.
I have rung them to ask and they said they also have certificate for my son as well as they applied together.

The ceremony date they have is for 17th december but my son and wife have to fly out of county on 20th December.
I asked and they dont even have private ceremony.
They have booked us for 14th janaury anf my faimly will be back by then.

I understand there are no travel restrictions on my wife till she attenda the ceremony but not sure about the son ?
Council said they will issue my son certificate alongside.
Will he have any restriction on flying out of country as we havent received his certificate yet although home office has sent it to the council but council will give us at the time when my wife attends ceremony.

Thanks

They both can travel internationally and attend ceremony once they're back. There are no restrictions on that.

A minor doesn't need to attend the ceremony. Mother will be handed the certificate.

I understand that minor doesnt attend cermeony
Hence asking can minor travel without british passport as his citizenship letter been issued although not yet with us
Will issuance of cotizenship letter invalidate the current visa ?

I was told that as the minor doesnt have to attend ceremony there visa will be invalid once citizenship letter is issued
Is it right ?

Your son can travel. They know he doens't have the certificate yet. Until the certificate is physically with you he should not be considered a British citizen.

Passport application

Post by Khan2805 » Thu Feb 12, 2026 7:41 pm

I applied for my son first birtish passport

They asked me to send additional documents which have arrived there 2 weeks ago as per tracking information but it is not updated on the portal yet.

I tried to ring passport helpline - they are saying some information they are asking as security questions is not right hence wont update me
I think it could be mobile number issue whether i am saying 0044 or +44
They are saying to go back to application and see the exact information and then ring back

Not sure how can i get back to application
It only says documents received on portal

Is there any way to go about it

Did you apply for your son's first British passport from abroad?
