I have applied for an adult first british passport on the 28th of June, had an acknowledgement on the 2nd of June by SMS, and have been waiting for a letter with reference number so that I can book an interview.
Today I have received my documents back (DX Secure - with the DX Label dated 13th of July!! either a typo or they can predict the future!!).

I was under the impression that they would send the letter first and supporting documents are normally sent later (as I can see from timelines).

I tried to call the enquiry number to see if they can give me a reference number but they fobbed me off saying that I have to wait for the letter.

Just wondering if it is normal to get your supporting documents first and if there is any way I can book (or get reference number) without having to wait for the letter.

Have a look at my timeline and don't stress! We are similar.

They predicted the future with my supporting documents and my invite letter was sent after my supporting documents.

Method of application: PO Check and Send
Date of application: 01/07/2013
Date of fee collection: 01/07/2013 (Paid at post office)
Date application acknowledged by I.P.S. : 03/07/2013 via text message
Date of receipt of interview letter: 12/07/2012 (letter dated 10/07/2012)
Date of return of documents: 11/07/2012 (envelope was dated 12/07/2012!)
Date of passport appointment: 15/07/2012
Date of passport receipt: 16/07/2013

just received the letter dated the 11th of July and booked an appointment on the 18th of July, thanks again iereboy

Got my passport at 8 am on Tuesday morning! Same thing as before . The envelope was printed with Wednesday s date but I got it on Tuesday . Ips was excellent and I got my passport in under 24 hours. Appointment was Monday at 8:45 and got passport at 8 :00 on Tuesday . End of a journey and I am happy but strangely sad.
