Seriously, why do you need both? Since to take the test you need know english quite well - Like you know the book/exercise book is written in English.....

Who's idea was this? Sorry for venting but I'm quite frustrated, been in Scotland for the past 10 yrs, settled in, bought house, my daughter is "Scottish" and I've thought that it would be good to finally do something about the citizenship for myself, cost itself is one thing, but took the test and passed it and I thought that's it, but No, you need the certificate that you can speak English .

I know that some folks went to college just to get the certificate, but going to a school for a year just for the sake of it?

So yeah, I'm annoyed.

Hi, sheep?!

Many English tests are available, specially B1-level, which cost less than £200 booking etc. and you prepare for a subject and go to take test and be done with test in under 40 mins. So have a little search and get it done.

But you would not believe how many British folks I have personally met, who cannot speak three sentences in a row (in English, their own language is a whole different story lol). So quite the opposite to you, that scenario used to annoy the hell out of me. So I for one is quite happy about requirement of English.

If you go to Germany you learn German, you go to France you learn French properly. Otherwise you do not and cannot integrate into their societies.
Just because you can "speak" a broken-torn-rubbish format of English, came here before me and have no intention of integration/learning local language, you should be spared? No.

That's my view/frustration.

Ha! Call me lazy, but I would love a button on UK Immigration/Gov website with "book the English test" which follows the same procedure as the "Life in the UK" one, this would be much more convenient.

At the same time I'll be probably doing Msc(which counts as the proof of your English knowledge) later this year but my original passport is running out so that's why I'm in the rush(yeah, I know it can take anywhere between 3-7mnths).

Oh well, need to investigate the SQA, since I'm in Gla/Scotland.

You dont have to have a current passport, expired passports are fine, you just need to show you were/are in country with current-nationality-expired passport. Please check this link and this one(click) to read a bit more about it. Good luck.

You don't need to do the course. If you can communicate in English well, then you can sit the Exam without doing any courses.

Some tests are just like 10 minutes long. That's all.

And yes, you can book them just like the LIUK test.
