Hi Friends,
I am planning to apply British Passport form my new born baby from India in Jan, I need your inputs..
Father:
Got UK Citizenship through naturalization in May 2016 in UK, took time off from work and might stay in India for some time
Mother:
On Dependent Visa till 2018, staying in India with Father
Have Maternity leave from her employer
Child:
Born in India in August 2016
1. Is it Ok to apply for British Passport for my child based on father's British Citizenship status or is there any rule that says both parents need to be citizens or ILR
2. Do they check parent's present address and take any negative decision if parents are not staying in UK
3. Parent's Full Birth Certificate, is there any specific document for this apart from Govt Birth Certificate
Thanks,
Sri.

1. Is it Ok to apply for British Passport for my child based on father's British Citizenship status or is there any rule that says both parents need to be citizens or ILR - So long as the child is born on or after the date of your citizenship certificate, s/he is a British citizen by descent and can apply directly for a British passport.
2. Do they check parent's present address and take any negative decision if parents are not staying in UK - No, because it is irrelevant. British citizenship can be transmitted by descent one generation outside the UK.
3. Parent's Full Birth Certificate, is there any specific document for this apart from Govt Birth Certificate - For naturalised British citizens, they will need the citizenship certificate, not the parent's foreign birth certificate. The reasoning of asking the certificate is to prove that the parent is a British citizen otherwise than by descent, not to check the parent's birth details.
Thanks,
Sri.

If child born after you became British, the child is British by descent. Apply for passport directy. It can take 6-12 months from India
2. Do they check parent's present address and take any negative decision if parents are not staying in UK
No, child is British.
3. Parent's Full Birth Certificate, is there any specific document for this apart from Govt Birth Certificate
Your birth certificate is not required. Only your passport and/or naturalisation certificate is required.
