Grandpa had a British Passport

Hi,

My grandfather had a British passport issued in 1944 as a Palestinian citizen while Palestine was a British colony. My uncle wonders if this passport (his dad's British passport) would give him an advantage or make it easier for him to acquire British Citizenship in any route (ancestor or any other route). Could you please clarify if this passport would help at all? and in what capacity?

It would be appreciated to refer us to any related material.

P.S. My grandpa passed away many years ago.

Thanks

It might be useful if you provide more details for further advice on this:
where was your GF born? Which authority issued the passport? What status does the passport show , i.e. British Citizen, or ??
Experts here might then give more detailed advice.

It says
British Passport
Palestine

Nationality of the holder: Palestinian Citizen

My GF was born in Haifa, Palestine.

The passport was issued by "His Majesty's High Commissioner for Palestine"

Where was his father or mother born?

You need to provide more history.

Both his father and mother were born in Palestine.

Please let me know what other information you need and where we could start getting any relevant information.

Where we're their parents born?

What we are trying to establish is line of the British born family member and how the citizenship passed on.

Did any family work for the British armed forces fo example??

If all members of the family (your grandfather, uncle and father) were born in Palestine, then there is no direct pathway to British citizenship based on that alone. British citizenship by descent requires at least one ancestor in the recent past to have been born in the UK (as it is currently constituted).

I have answered a few other queries on Palestine and British rule there here, here and here. Please read through them and get back to us with any further queries.
