British passport for child living abroad (through naturalization)

Hello Everyone,

Could you please tell us if we can naturalise for British nationality and apply for British passport for our 1 year old son? If he moves to live abroad?
He was born in UK and has been living in London for 1 year and attended nursery.
However we want him to stay with grandma abroad ( most likely 2-6 months) we do not know yet just for economic reasons as we both work and nurseries are quite expensive.
Do you think we could apply to naturalise him still? He will stay with grandma but we can send his passport to London via courier. However after 2-6 months he will come to live in UK with us.
Any opinion please?
Thanks!

Children are registered. Only adults are naturalised.

Yes, a UK born child has an entitlement to register as British, so you can apply regardless of where the child currently lives. The child will need to attend a biomteric appointment too.

You need proof of a parents PR/Settled Status or ILR to be able to register the child.

Hi thanks.

If the child is abroad they are asking for passport HO.
Can I send it from Europe to UK via DHL or I can apply without passport and just explain that he is not in the country and went abroad for several months? Like visiting family members?

Was the child born BEFORE you got PR/Settled Status/ILR or AFTER??

The child was born before we received settled status

The child has to be Registered as British first on form MN1, which costs £1022 and the child needs to enroll biometrics. A British passport can only be applied for by a British citizen. Your child is not yet a British citizen.

can he register as british citizen with that payment and not being in UK? Provided the parents live in UK and both registered for permanent residence and child has also permanent residence.
