I would like to know if a child who was born outside the UK and has been in the UK for four years with his mother, and they have obtained permanent residence rights for one year, can the child apply for British citizen alone? Does the child need to meet the time of residence in the UK last year? Thank you for your answer.

No. But there are other requirements.

Children born abroad can apply to register as a British citizen when one parent has become or has applied to become a British citizen AND the child and the other parent both have ILR.

So, the important question is, what is the UK immigration status of the other parent?

Thank you for your reply. When the child was born, neither of the parents had permanent residence status.

That's fine. The advice still stands.

At the very least, in order to register as a British citizen, the child needs to have settled status/ILR themselves and at least one parent to already have British citizenship or to have applied for British citizenship at the same time as the child. The UK immigration status of the other parent is also relevant.

So, what is the UK immigration status of the other parent?
