ILR applicaton and expired passports

Hello Everyone !

Do we need to renew expired passports before applying ILR ?

Background : I am on ILR since Dec 2018. MY wife and kids' ILR due in Jan 2020.
But their Indian passports expired few months ago.
My question is do we need to renew passports before applying for ILR in jan or can apply with expired passports ? Thank you !

They need valid passports to apply for ILR.
