my baby was born in the UK Jun 2012 and I am due to apply for ILR in Dec 12. "Assuming" I do get ILR will be baby still qualify for british citizenship ?

From gov.uk website it looks like if I had ILR before baby was born only then baby qualifies ?

British citizenship - born on or after 1 January 1983

Being born in the UK doesn’t automatically give you British citizenship.

If you were born on or after 1 January 1983, you will be a British citizen if your mother or father was either:

a British citizen when you were born

‘settled’ in the UK when you were born

The baby will get British citizenship, if he/she was born in the UK, and both the parents are now settled.

Here is a link for the same:

http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/briti ... /borninuk/
Section 1(3) applications - children born in the United Kingdom to parents who are now settled in the United Kingdom
If the child's parent has become settled in the United Kingdom or becomes a British citizen, the child will have an entitlement to register as a British citizen. This registration would be under section 1(3) of the British Nationality Act 1981.
And here is the relevant form and guidance:

No problem.

You might want to consider using the Nationality Checking Service, for submitting your MN1 application. That way you wont have to part with any of your original documents including the baby's current passport.

I am planning to do the same for my daughter.

No need for apologies, perfectly valid question.

Yes MN1 helps you register your baby as a British citizen, and makes him/her eligible for a British passport. You can then apply for a British passport in any post office close to you.

They also have a fast track passport application if time is of essence in your case.
