Advisor says SET M ILR will be rejected

Hello
My wife is here on a spousal visa, I am a UK citizen (born here). She came to the UK in Dec 2011 and completed her 2 years last month.
I work, she doesn't. My salary is approx. £33k per year and we live with my family so bills are shared.
We went to an immigration advisor and he said my application would be rejected because I could only show £4k in savings & £2k in our current account, so £6k savings total. I thought that savings wouldn't be an issues because of my salary but the advisor said a person could lose their job at any time so the UKBA will want proof that even if they did they wouldn't claim benefits.
Can anyone advise?
