Non-EU with COA + right to work. Has a job but no bank acc..

Hi,

I am EU, my husband is non-EU. Last month he got his COA + right to work. He started working the 31st of October. We were told that it would not be a problem for him to get paid into my account. Now it is a problem, the day he was supposed to get paid they said they can't for legal reasons. We really need this money, for the past months we have been living on one salary which is not very comfortable. Home office still has his passport so we can't even open a bank account for him. HSBC even said they would also need the actual plastic residence card, the passport wouldn't be enough. The company says they don't do checks anymore. On his payslip it says check for the moment. We both work for the same company. What can we do? Can we ask the HO for our documents back? Will other banks open an account just with the COA and a passport?

Look for a bank that offers 'basic' bank accounts. Some specialise in demographics with 'difficulties' such as migrants.

And check hubby's work contract to see what it says about payment. Is cash an option?

Otherwise try to negotiate a special arrangement to be paid or loaned cash for a month or two. Talk to any union/staff representative for support. Engage with HR.

Hi there,

I think he can get cheque from them and exchange it for cash the more you exchange the less you pay interests, till his passports is returned, in the meantime he can asks for the return of his passports anytime from now! https://eforms.homeoffice.gov.uk/outrea ... ments.ofml
But be careful, you have to answer 'No' to the question 'Do you want to withdraw the application?'

A 'Yes' there and you would have cancelled your application!

Hi,

Thx for the replies.

We have now requested his passport and are waiting for it to arrive. The company basically says we have stopped using cheques... I can't understand why they don't just write us a cheque it should not be that complicated.

When the C O A that you have is nearly expired i e a month, write to them quoting your application ref number they may issue new one to you without disclosing the stage of your application unless if the decision has been made which will come through the post.
