The Brexit Secretary Davis David, said the aim was to ensure people had rights "almost equivalent to British Citizens", if the EU27 agreed to a reciprocal deal. The cut-off date for people to qualify for this status would be 29 March 2017 at the earliest, he said.

I am confused about "cut-off date for people to qualify for this status would be 29 March 2017 at the earliest"

Does it apply to EU citizens who have arrived in the UK prior to 29 March 2017?

Am family member of EEA I had my PR issued on 15/05/2017 is that mean after the Brexit my PR will be no longer valid?

Thus far the UK Government has been referring to EU Citizens. So there is nothing new to say about their intentions. We will know later this afternoon what Mrs May has got to offer.

All these stupid CUT OFF DATES are all nonsense and UK can continue to dream on as it will never be recognize in Brussel. Negotiation between US and EU trade is also drag on for years before it collapse because of the same reason. EU are not stupid like some leaders who would have sold their citizen off by now.

People will be shock when final deal is reached. Under the state of all things the only cut off date that Brussel recognize was when the UK actually leave the EU end off.

Prime Minister May already setup her plans. things look very scary. I am a EFM (extended family Member of EU) i am serious starting thinking to moved out from UK and move some where else in EU.

since Britexit happened. i just keep giving me stress and now it start having side effects on me. i want to live and want to give happy life to my partner and my kids.

here simply they dont want us. why not i give my skills (I am IT consultant) to an other EU countries/country where the respect me without my colour and my race.

i really had enough with this shit.

This paper is as ambiguous as it can be.

Still no clarification on the following:

1) What about the family members for those EU nationals who arrived with the EU national before cut off date but would not complete 5 years before brexit.

It does says that the EU national would be allowed to complete 5 years and acquire settled status but doesnt gives insight about their family members.

2) There is no clarification about the EU case laws and whether the above will apply to British citizens who are deemed to be EU nationals( Surinder Singh Route).

3) What about the existing pending applications. Would they keep on hold or would they process it as per the current process.

Theresa May spent an entire year only to make it more ambiguous.

Not a very 'strong' and 'stable' policy paper.

Possible case law interpretation (not specific to immigration). Also see the document linked to in this post. They have not specified the future for either SS route or Zambrano carers.

New process only kicks in after Brexit day. Apparently, people with PR documents before Brexit day will have to reapply for the new documentation again.

Just to ask for their finger print and keep it in their system and that will not happen as the Union are not stupid.

The Government's position paper says that those with PR documents will need to reapply (for settled status) post-withdrawal- but this is not set in stone and may change depend on negotiations with EU/legislation in Parliament. I think it would still be recommended to obtain PR evidence if possible. After that- wait and see what the post-2019 requirements actually turn out to be and be prepared to act as needed.

Even if there is a breakdown in talk, changes in legislation will not happen overnight. People who have PR, can apply for Citizenship, register their British Children, so it will not be all gloomy.

There is an avenue to pursue the government through the courts. So i believe that people should not get over worried or anxious.

It is clear that the Government don't care much about EU national, but the nature of the parliamentary configuration, means they cannot just punish these people, even if there is a cliff edge Brexit.

It is worth noting that there are over 1.2 Million British citizens in the content. Some are adamant not to every return to the UK, I remember a British Woman in Spain, who told me she does not want to return to the UK even in death. So i am sure there will be huge political pressure on the government to secure the interest of those people.

In any event, what we have now is a proposal. It is likely the minimum that EU national can expect to get. There is likely to be more, if UK does not want a Cliff edge Brexit.
