But coming from Canada, my reasoning is: He still has a duty to do his job, Catholic or not
Not sure of what duties you have in mind here. An MP is required to represent his constituency in Parliament; that is his job. Anything else, such as liaising between his constituents and government departments is an optional extra, which they normally do to get votes. It is not something that they are required to do.

It is illegal in Northern Ireland for a Unionist or loyalist MP to treat his constituent differently because they are from Catholic or Republican persuasion.
I beg to differ with Secretsimon on the roles of the MP. I do not see a bright light between liaising and representation. They are pretty much the same thing.

I do because they are liaising/representing different things. The MP's job is to represent the views of the constituency as a whole/community (not individual constituents) in the House of Commons (not necessarily to government departments). That latter part, as I mentioned, is an optional extra, to attract/gain votes.

In any case, the OP's issue is a matter of law, not of politics and I would defer to @Obie on points of law (not politics :))

I beg to differ.

MPs has specialised teams of assistance in their surgery, responsible for immigration matters. Their is a special MP liason team at the UKVI. These officials are paid for by tax payers money, so I do not accept they are just doing it to get votes.

MP have individual and collective responsibilities for individual constituent and the constituency as a whole.

If a member of their constituent encounters issue with the executive, which in the UK is linked to the legislature, as MP can be both legislature and executive, which is headed by a government member of Parliament or Lords, then it is their role to address it.

I may be wrong, but it is an interesting point for people who know the role of their MP.
