Unmarried Partner Visa - individual income or combined?

Post by Dorihow » Sat May 11, 2019 12:08 pm

Hi there,
I am an American who is applying to extend my FLR (M) as an unmarried partner to a British national.

My salary meets the income threshold on its own, and so does my partner's salary. With this in mind, is it better to submit one person's income as proof since one meets the requirement on its own, or would it be recommended to combine the two to show the whole financial picture, so to speak?

Also, the visa system has changed significantly since we last applied, and I am unsure if we are still meant to post our passports and supporting documents after applying online or if it is expected that we take these to one of the new service centres? My partner has a trip planned abroad a few days after we plan to apply, and he is worried that he may not be able to go if the HO is still in possession of his passport at the time.

Many thanks in advance for any help! These message boards are a life-saver!

To keep the paper work less and for a straight case, its always wise to use the income of one partner if he is earning sufficiently.

New system allows to keep original documents & passport but travelling after applying will mean of withdrawing the application.
The opinion expressed as above is neither a professional advice nor contesting/competing to other member's opinion/advice.
