ISLAMIC DIVORCE QUESTION

I got married in the UK with my partner from the UK in 2010. This was under the Islamic nikah namah but we never registered the marriage under English law . We mutually separated in 2016 and I verbally announced the marriage and informed her.

I recently got married in Pakistan and am completing the paper work for my spouse visa. one of the questions is was I previously married. I must answer yes, but what documentation wold they expect to see?

Any advice most welcome.

Britain doesn't recognise Islamic marriages as marriages, so technically speaking you were in a long relationship rather than marriage from the point of view of British law. So why shall you say "yes" to this question?

I'm far from being an expert but I'm trying to follow logic here.

Maybe saying it 'no' and then clarifying it in covering letter is better idea.

good suggestion, thanks. really appreciate everyone taking the time out to advise

do you think theyd want any documentation? I have a 'certificate' that was posted to her informing her of it, but didn't have any formal organisation logo on there was just a confirmation of a verbal divorce,
