Rules for Patronymic names for UK visa

Post by wishcrabb123431 » Sat Feb 10, 2024 2:36 pm

Hello,

First time poster on here. Me and my partner (who is from Kazakhstan) are planning on applying for the UK Fiance Visa very soon. In preparation for the documentation required, we noticed that their passport only contains their first name and family name, but does not include their patronymic name. This is both for the latin and Russian script.

However, on their national ID (and their birth certificate), their patronymic name is included.

My main question is, is this going to cause issues? Would it be worth changing the passport so it is reflective of their national ID and birth certificate? From my understanding, when applying for the visa, they must include the patronymic name. I am just worried that the passport won't be considered genuine by the UK home office.

Edit:
And to further extend this, I have another question. Say that the passport was modified, am I correct in saying that previous passport references must be included within the application with an explanation behind why it was modified? And would this cause any issues in the explanation?

Thanks in advanced!

Neither of these two documents are required for a fiance visa. Unsure why you believe they are.

You are overthinking. Any visa is issued based on the name in the passport. Even if it is a patriotic name, UKVI put an English version on BRP card and not the patriotic name. They can include in the application form any other name they are known by, but my understanding is that funny letters and symbols, often in patriotic names, are not catered for.

You are overthinking. The passport as it is is fine to use.

Thanks for the response.

I do understand that the national id and the birth certificate are not specific requirements of the visa we are going for. I was just under the impression that on conducting background checks they would come across this discrepancy, and because they would have to explicitly state their patronymic name- it's absence from the passport from look troubling.
