How long do I have to respond after approval letter?

Hi Everyone,

I am expecting citizenship approval letter ( God willing..) in June or July. But we are planning a extended visit ( maternity leave ) to our home country. I am afraid that the approval letter will arrive while we are away. My question is how long do I have to respond to approval letter and pay the fees ? We will only be back in November. Can we wait 3-4 months after we receive the approval letter to pay the fees.

Yes u can delay it for 3 to 4 months.

Thank you CalvinKlien, should I contact them letting them know there will be a delay ( before I leave ) or should I just contact them when I get get back? How do I get in touch with them?

Chaoclive, thank you! But I found out just now from INIS website that citizenship related matters cannot be communicated through email. Only phone and an actual mail will be allowed. But I heard that contacting them in reference to your immigration case will delay your case each time..is this true?

They won't reply to specific enquiries about a specific case via email, but I would try to send this kind of general enquiry to: citizenshipinfo@justice.ie (This was an email I used in December 2013).

It doesn't do any harm to try Or just call them directly:

This helpline is available from 10.00am to 12.30pm each Tuesday and Thursday mornings, excluding Bank and Public Holidays.

As far as I know you can delay it for 6 months. Before the 6 months are over, you will get a letter from them advising that 6 months are up...if you do not pay within the 6 months, then your application is VOID and you will have to repeat the same process all over again. I know someone who is in the same situation, and I asked the same question not to long ago. So you do have 6 months.

But if I were you, I would pay ASAP seeing that its so hard to get citizenship...(if you get approved that is)
