Can EEA2 residence card be used by Europeans?

Post by gebbione » Tue Mar 11, 2014 1:35 pm

Hi

I have read a little and spoken with friends who required the EEA2 card and obtained it but I am still left with doubts.

I am Italian with expired italian ID and italian passport but I have lived in the UK since 2000 and run a business here. A friend suggested I could apply for the EEA2 card - https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/s ... 6/eea2.pdf

The document however states the card is "To be used by non-European Economic Area (EEA) or non-Swiss national family
members of EEA or Swiss nationals residing in the UK.
"

Am I correct then that even if I request it I will not be able to travel with it in the UK?

p.s.: If you wonder why i would like to apply for one it is because the Italian consulate bureaucracy is worse than i could ever imagine. I have tried to book for a passport appointment on their online system since mid Jan 2014 and it is always fully booked. Also a friend new ID card request took over 1 year to be processed.

You cannot receive an EEA2 document known as residence card, it is for example your family member who is not an European union citizen, in general terms non EU family member of EU citizens care the one to apply using the form, you can however apply for EEA1, but with an expired passport I do not know how your application will be processed.

As you stated you have stayed in the UK since 2000 you may well have qualified to naturalise as a British if you wish to.

In any case, the residence documentation is not a travel document replacement but complement to the ID proving your right to live in the UK. You can't travel just with it without a travel document.
