On which side of the argument is the Daily Mail

I have always thought that the Daily Mail don't like immigrant or the European Union, full stop.

However this article, seem to confuse me a bit, or is it probably the case that D Mail intended to cause confusion. Perhaps they are seeking to make their position more crystal clear, for the avoidance of doubt.

It seems to me, that the Daily Mail is seeking to advocate that certain immigrant, of certain colour or ethnicity, should not be dealt under the senseless and unduly harsh immigration policy.

They are clearly not highlighting a softening of the policy for all man kind, but for specific group.

Would it not have been nice, if the Daily mail was asking the government to sling their hook.

It seems they are not doing this, but rather, something else more cynical.

Here's the cynical answer:

They are white and middle class. They share a distinct affinity to the majority of the Daily Mail readership. The DM see this as 'one of their own' being treated badly. E.g. At least one member of the family isn't foreign and doesn't have a different coloured skin. Oh - and there's a cute kid involved.

I'm pretty sure the DM think about each story pretty closely before publishing. Can we make the person evil or will people see the innocent victim. In this case - the victim isn't the mother - sure she's separated - but it's mainly the daughter, having her father "cruelly" taken from her. (I only use the quotes to reflect the emotive language of the piece - not as a commentary).

It's actually a really smart tactic from the DM. They vilify the illegals, vilify the HRA and then hold up examples of people who should be treated correctly but aren't. It's designed to encourage the government to come down even harder on the illegal and 'foreign' community. They don't really care what happens to this family - but they are a means to an end.

Just look at the top 'best rated' comment on the article. I think that's exactly the reaction they wanted.
