Hi,
My wife is Pregnant and is due in Aug. We want to call her mother (my mother-in-law) for support as I am on a mobile job which requires a lot of travel. We both are on ILR. My wife does not work. Could someone please answer following questions?
1. Do we need to apply Family Visitor Visa?
2. Can I call my mother-in-law for 6 months? We would ideally like mother-in-law to come to UK in April and stay till Oct.
3. I was looking at online application form and it is asking for my father-in-law's passport details whereas he is not travelling with mother-in-law. The thing is that father-in-law's passport is in renwal and may take up to a month to deliver. Should I just mention his old Passport number and say in Cover Letter that his passport is in renewal process?
4. Do I need to post original pay slips and bank statements of last six months to India? Or could I just email scanned copies?
I'll really appreciate a quick response on this.
Thanks,
N

1. Yes
2. Yes - but be aware that the longer the visit - the more scrutiny it'll come under to make sure they have strong ties to the home country and prove they'll return. Also be aware that the visa will be issued with a start date of the issue date - so the visa is never really usably 6 month long. You can request a later start date, but that relies on the ECO noticing during the application.
3. Yes - do that.
4. I would send originals - but that's me. Others have reported success using scanned copies. I think it depends how critical it is to the application. If you are going to be their source of financial support - I'd make sure the originals are there and present.

Hi,
Thanks for a quick reply. Much appreciated! I am going to supply below documents. I hope they are fine.
## Mother-In-Law ##
Application Form
Current Passport
One passport sized photograph
Marriage Certificate in English
Bank Statements of Father-In-Law for last 6 months
Father-In-Law's Letter (this will just confirm that Mother-In-Law is dependant and Father-In-Law covers all her expenses and daily living in India)
Father-In-Law's ownership detail of current property
## Mine ##
6 months pay slips (original)
6 months bank statements (original)
Letter of Sponsorship (original)
Copy of current Passport
Copy of Visa Card
Copy of Marriage Certificate
Council Tax Bill (original)
Hope that's all what is required. I have seen people providing Tenancy Agreement but I have had a couple of friends who got approval for Family Visitor and never provided Tenancy Agreement. And Tenancy Agreement is also not mentioned in guidance notes so wouldn't want to over complicate things by providing more documents.
And yes I agree that it will be better to send original copies of pay slips and bank statements which I'll post from here soon.
Hope that's all that is required. Please let me know if I am missing anything.
Thanks,
N
