Tier 2 ILR confused

My friend is on tier 2 visa which was applied in April 2009, this was rejected as case worker didn't consider his salary was appropriate with job code, he got rejection in May 2009, he has appealed and appeal was allowed in august n visa was stamped in September 2009 until April 2012, after that I applied for extension n granted visa until May 2015.
when he is eligible for ILR??

I actually think the person qualifies for ILR in April 2014.
This is because when the appeal was allowed, the tier 2 was backdated to when he applied originally in April 2009 on a 3year visa. This also explains why initial visa was up till April 2012 (and NOT Sept 2012).He was now given another 3years from May 2012 to May 2015 - the second 3yr visa. Am I making sense!
Pls let us know how this progresses.

I think he is eligible to apply after completing 5 years since his T2 is stamped.
