Tourist/ Student Visa Question...

I currently have my cousin in the uk but he is on a 6 month tourist visa. He came before on a student visa to improve his English language and for sure to make some money. He then returned to Egypt to finish his degree and to sort out details of his army duty.

This second time he applied for a visa he rushed into the process of getting a tourist visa (to avoid the time it takes for a student visa) without consulting us, and I believe he thought he would be able to work legally with the tourist visa. We have now advised him to change his visa to a student one (We had previously paid a large sum of money for him to go on a computer course).

So my question is how can he change his visa from a tourist visa to a student visa? Does he have to go back to Egypt and reapply or is it possible for him to extend or swap the tourist visa with a student visa in the uk? Does he have to visit any offices (an embassy, foreign office, home office...) or is there a form he can fill out and send?

I have been searching online for details of changing and extending visas and I can not seem to find anythinggg useful!!! So if anyone has any appropriate info then it's much appreciated.

He has to go home - you can't switch from visitor to student or to almost anything in-country....

The only way anyone can switch from visitor to student is if they are from a non-visa national country and if the course they intend doing is degree level or above - and even this measure is closing at the end of August.

So, I agree - he will have to go home.
