Tier 2 extension or a New visa?

Dear all,

I work for a university and am on Tier 2.

Recently I am got an offer from a different department from the same university and the job descriptions are slightly different.

In this case will i need an extension of Tier 2 or a new Tier 2 application? The HR suggests that the extension should be ok- however I am not sure about this.

Also, My current Tier 2 runs out in November. How early can i apply for extension or renewal?

assuming both departments are part of the same university, and your sponsor is the university, you can make an extension application if your job SOC doesn't change, otherwise you'll have to make a change of employment application. In both cases a new Cos will be needed.

An extension application can be made at any time.
