I have applied through post couldn't be bothered with the traveling and waiting in the long ques. In the HCI, London website they have mentioned that when you submit the application they also give you a date to collect the processed PIO card.

PIO for: Family (2 adults + 2 children)
Application Type: New
Method of application: In person at HCI London
Date of application: 16/04/2014
Date application received by HCI: 16/04/2014
Date of return of documents: 16/04/2014 (Same day in person application)
Date of PIO card Receipt: 29/04/2014 (date stamped on receipt on the date of application)

Really smooth process, I would recommend to all to make a visit to the HCI as its worth is at least for PIO application.

My son's PIO is approved. It doesn't allow me to edit original timelines post.

They have given a Passport lookalike grey color booklet, as oppose to traditional blue (passport), marked as PIO, has just two page inside, valid for 15 years. Its all hand written, not machine (computer) printed, outdated HCI and their infrastructure.

I was hoping they will stamp PIO vignette (sticker). Now I will have to carry this booklet along with his British passport, pain!

Dear Forum members,

I'm looking to apply for PIO for my daughter who is Citizen by birth. I came across this statement in HCI and like to understand if this is a new process that PIO will be sent only through post?

COLLECTION PROCEDURE

PIO Cards can be received by the applicants by post only on the address given by them, for which they must be sending 'self-addressed paid special delivery envelopes' alongwith their applications at the time of submission – both at counter as well as by post.

3. At the top Form says - (To be filled in duplicate), what does it mean?

1. Only 1 prepaid envelope is enough

2. No need for parents and grandparents details if you had Indian passport

3. No need to send duplicate forms- just one form per applicant is enough

Documents returned : Asking Parents passports to be sent even though my son Applies based on his previous Indian passport. In HCI London you do not need to submit parents passport. but in CGI Birmingham they have different rules or they are not aware of the requirements.

Advice: If you have to apply in Birmingham , go in person and do not plan for travel.

Applied PIO for my daughter (new born) at HCI London

Applied on: 27th Aug 2014
Application type: In person. Reached at 7:15. Token issued at 8:30. Application collected at 10:00. They do not open the counter until 9:30!
PIO card received : 10 Sep 2014

- You have to take all the originals and one copy. They will return the originals including baby's passport. They only take the copies of documents. There is a copier inside their building if required.
- The application form says "To be filled in Duplicate". I only submitted the original application form.
- They only take cash, and i think they need exact change.
- A self addressed envelope.
- Four 50 X 50 photo

I am going to apply for my son's (minor) PIO by post, I have an ILR at the moment. Would like to know if your kid's PIO application was successful and also what documents did you send? Please could your list both originals and photocopies specifically? How did you send the payment?

Also did you paste your kid's photograph in the form and sent a photocopy of the form with the picture pasted?
Could you also please paste the address to which you posted the application?

I am also applying by post for my son (based on his Indian passport and not his parents) to "PIO Section, High Commission of India, India House, Aldwych, London, WC2B 4NA." Would appreciate if you could help me out with these questions:

1) Out of the four pics required, did you paste one of his pic on the form?
2) Did you also send a copy of the form with the pic pasted on it?
3) Did they ask for parents original passport or only copies?
4) Which address did you put on the permanent address - UK or Indian?
5) Last but not the least. Did you receive your son's PIO card yet?
