UK Visitor Visa from USA - Supporting documents question?

Thanks for looking. I am a green card holder in USA and visiting UK for 10 days. I am applying for General visitor visa from USA and have a question regarding supporting documents that needs to be sent.

Do I need to mail the copies or originals for the following documents
1. Green card or Permanent resident card for USA
2, Previous passports

Any help would be greatly appreciated since I got the biometrics done and ready to mail my application.

They will need to see your passport with your permission to be in the USA. That does not necessarily have to be a green card as it is permitted to apply for UK visit visas from the position of being a legal visitor in another state. However, providing your green card will show your strong ties to the USA and will facilitate better the UK visit application. They don't need to see previous passports unless your current visa is in an older passport that has now been renewed. The gov.uk site lists all of the suggested documents for the application.

Thanks for your reply. I will be including my US Green card but since this need to be mailed to New York for processing the visitor visa, I do not want to mail the original unless it is required. Please let me know, if the copy is good enough.
