Trade body membership & insurance

Can any one help me what sort of insurance I need I am applying as a IT consultant ....
What is trade body membership & where I have get register?

secondly BCS membership fees is £130.00 is it really necessary to have it?

I think the UKITA (click) would be more appropriate.
