England to USA possible for a new pharmacist?

Post by Jasonboyer » Wed Jul 25, 2007 12:57 am

Hello guys and girls,

I am a newly qualfied Mpharm student and was looking into a move to the states, I start my first job next week so have no experiance at the moment. I am having trouble in finding out if the US class pharmacy as occupation/skill in high demand and if it allows me to immigrate?

Alot of my research is showing other paths such as lottery. I am 22 years old, have stable finances, no relatives their and was looking to make an application as soon as possible. Can anybody advise on timescale and give an idication of my chances?

Thanks for your help its much appreciated

:) :)

Ah, here's your post!
If you're a British Citizen I don't think you qualify for the "Diversity Visa Lottery". Unless you hold another nationality.

Pharmacy is a job in demand in the US - did some research. But I am not sure what level so you'd need to check it out.

As a general rule for other readers - if you are interested in practicing pharmacy in the US, do a search for "state board pharmacy" on a search engine. Every US state has their own rules about how to qualify to practice in the US - qualifications are not 100% transferable and you're required to take some tests. Then visit NAPLEX (test) and National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NAPB - test administrator) for information about moving to the US. Don't just up and leave!!

I don't know much about the visas, but I know that this process is almost the same for nurses (state board of nursing, tests, etc) and so the visa issue is related to your passing the test and being qualified by the state to practice there.

DV Lottery eligibilty is mainly based on birthplace not citizenship.
