Hi guys,
I am moving to the UK in August under a Tier 2 General visa. I already have my CoS from UCL. My wife is coming with me, so she will apply for a dependant visa. We will do it at the same time. I have two questions:
1) about english language requirement. I haven't found anywhere that she needs to take a test. When starting the online application, IIRC, there was no field to fill out with this as well, so I assume that she doesn't need it. Am I correct? I don't want to take any chances! I know spouses are required to take the test but I believe that's only for indefinite leave to remain, while our case is a Tier 2 (3 years). Please if anyone can confirm this, it will be great.
2) about funds maintenance. My CoS has the maintenance thing ticked, and UCL is A-rated, so I am covered. What about my wife? The CoS doesn't say anything about that. Reading the guidance, it says that UCL should submit a letter saying that they can also cover her maintenance. But I requested this, and the UCL staff told me that their contact at UKBA said it was not needed. The tick in the CoS would be valid for both of us if we apply at the same time. Can anyone confirm? We don't have maintenance funds available; we do have them actually, but they were not on the bank account for 90 days, since we had a lot of checks/cash lying around that we forgot to deposit before finding out about this requirement.
I would very much appreciate any help here. Our time frame is quite rigid at the moment so I don't want to take any chances with this.
Thanks!
