Hello I would be very grateful for views on what the best approach is to take in my friend’s work permit application which her employer is sending in soon. My friend is non EEA. She tells me that she meets the work permit criteria. However, there is a problem. Some years ago she worked in Ireland in breach of her visa conditions. She paid tax when she worked. Options are to fully disclose the breach in her work permit application along with her social security(?) number, to disclose her social security number and period during which she worked legally or not to disclose her social security number at all. She has asked me for my advice and my instinct is to fully disclose. However, I am not from Ireland myself and am unfamiliar with its immigration regime. Is the best thing to do for her to disclose the breach in the work permit application or should she take a chance and not disclose? To what extent is it likely that in the course of the approval process her social security number will be checked as between the relevant governmental departments to see when she did work? I know the stakes are high so wanted to take soundings from people on this board who have a lot more experience on such matters. I would really appreciate your views. Thank you.
