Lithuanian to British citizenship requirement.

Post by cdyz5 » Wed May 28, 2014 9:12 am

Hi All.

Your help will be appreciated. My wife is from lithuania. she is living in England since 2002. She also had a work registration form which was issued on 2006. she been working since she is living in England.

last year some one told me to apply for british passport she will have to prove that she been working continuously last 5 years. she's missing some wages slip and also missing the p45, p60.

is there is anyway if she can apply for british passport. we read the british citizenship form, does she also need to pass the life in uk test.

thanks in advance for the help

Regards.

5 years if you (the husband) are British citizen, 6 years otherwise.

She will need to prove having worked continuously, but it looks like gaps up to 6 months each are allowed, so see where the remaining payslips and P60s take you. Also, letters from employers, confirming periods of employment can be used.

Finally, if she becomes British, she will lose her Lithuanian citizenship - she should be aware of this.

Thank you for your quick reply.
what if we can find the payslips I remember in past she also worked as cash in hand. how about if we get a letter from employer that she been working for them in past. we have wages slip but they wont cover all the 6 years back. and as said there is no off time and in mean while she also worked as cash in hand. is there any other way round please?

yes we are aware if she become british she will lose her Lithuanian nationality.

Unfortunately, she needs proof, covering 6 years. If there is a gap at any time of 6 months or longer, it annuls the time worked before it.

She needs to ring HMRC and ask them to reissue her P60s or ask for some sort of proof that she's been paying taxes. (I know it's possible)
