moving to UK from France with my korean wife

Post by mattFR » Thu Jun 05, 2014 11:55 pm

Hello all,

I am writing today to ask about the EEA family permit.
I am French married with a South Korean national for 2 years now. Since 2010 we are living in France, and she has a residence visa ("titre de sejour")to stay here.
I recently got a good job offer to come and work in the UK (for a while) and was wondering what was the best way for my wife to follow me.
As a Korean she doesn't need any visa to stay up to 6 months in the Uk, but she would like to have the right to work asap as well.
So I read about the EEA family permit. The thing is the company wants me to start within a week, so we can't apply for the "accompany an EEA member .." as I will already be there when the paper is going to be ready. So we were ready to wait a bit and do the "join a EEA member" after I find an accommodation over there. I would much rather prefer that she accompanies me in the UK though, do you guys have any advices on this situation?

As a non-visa national (Korean) she can simply enters along with you by skipping the EEA family permit. Since you starting work immediately then can send eea2 residence permit application which usually produce Coa (certificate of application) confirming the right of work for employment purposes.

My wife is not really convinced with this method as she looked on Korean websites, and people usually go through the EEA family permit.
She thinks it is going to be difficult to apply for the EEA2 directly without any EEA ... Moreover I heard they keep the passport for a long long time for EEA2 and it would mean she can't move anywhere waiting for this decision.
If we still want to apply for the EEA, do we need to wait that I find accommodation , and do we need to translate to English all documents ? (which can be expensive)
Thank you
