Do my children qualify for Irish citizenship?

Post by flmm27 » Fri Jul 04, 2014 2:10 pm

I'd really welcome feedback on this issue as I've not so far had a response from the official channels.

I'm keen to get Irish citizenship for my children but cannot work out whether they qualify. Key points:

My Grandfather was born in Ireland 1911.
My Mother was born UK in 1945, and has never actively claimed her Irish citizenship.
My Father became a naturalised Irish citizen early 1990s (he renounced his Australian nationality at the same time).

I'm keen to activate my own Irish citizenship - which seems to be in order & ideally pass it on to my children - born in 2004 and 2007. Is this possible? If so, what is my course of action?

according to the act of 1956, your children should qualify for citizenship by decent and by Irish Associations

Thanks for your reply! I've had a look at the 1956 Act: http://www.inis.gov.ie/en/INIS/consolid ... onINCA.pdf, but am still feeling unclear about my children's status and what my next steps would be. Would you be able to give a few more details do you think?

you can view the forms page on INIS website http://inis.gov.ie/en/INIS/Pages/Citize ... on%20Forms
fill out the appropriate one. I am not sure what you mean by "activate", if you do not have Irish Citizenship yourself, i think u need to fill form 10 and send all appropriate documents proving your grandfather's nationality and your father's as well.
If you are an Irish Citizen, fill out form 9.
