Counting days outside UK

Hello,

I have a Tier 2 General visa and would like to know how to count the days outside UK as I will be happy to apply for ILR later.
Just need to know if the day of departure and the day of arrival are counted in the days outside UK or not?
For example, if I travelled 1/5/2014 and returned 5/5/2014 so the days outside UK will be 5 days (including the day of departure and the day of arrival) or 3 days (excluding the day of departure and the day of arrival) ?

only full day is counted not the day or departure and the day of arrival because on both of these days you are physically in the uk.hope it answer the question.
