Tier 2 dependent visa

Post by lemontarts » Sun Jul 13, 2014 8:54 pm

Hi all,

I just have a couple of questions as my husband (currently in the US) is applying to come into the UK as a dependent on my T2 sponsored visa. I've been here 12 months on the visa already (we got married in April, in the US).

1: Do I apply or does he apply? I'm really confused by the guidance (which doesn't say) and the visa4uk application website. What visa category/subcategory do we choose? The only one that seems to give the right choices is the settlement visa, but we're not settling (or are we?).
2: We only need £630 maintenance/90 days, right? Given that I've been here 12 months already?
3: What documents are needed on my part as the sponsor?

I see such conflicting advice about these things and I'm sure it's just because the rules keep changing. Thanks very much for your clarification.

OK after some more extensive research I've found most of the answers to my questions:

1. He applies - on the website the categories are: Work -> Tier 2 General -> Partner (3 years)
2. The 12 month thing is only for Tier 1 entrepreneur, so there's no need to worry about that. Just have to provide proof of £630 maintenance for him.
3. This is detailed in the guidance notes (which they don't very helpfully link to on the site, so here it is). https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/s ... idance.pdf
The paper version of the form is also here - there are a few typos in the help text on the online form that make some things ambiguous. You can match it up on the form here to make sure: https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/s ... /vaf10.pdf

Hope this helps someone else.
